The band started in April 2000. Roger, Alex and Chris were looking at starting another band just for a bit of fun. After years of being in bands as Oddball and No Idea they just wanted a bit of fun, nothing too serious.(we all know now how wrong that was!) Step, the original bass player, was also of Oddball fame, and when looking for a drummer, Steve from Nasty Pasties was asked.
Thus PONCHO ESTRADA was born.
Not long after recording for the debut ep Volvo, had started, Step decided to quit the band, sighting a loss of interest and a growing intrest in let's say the natural life in Byron Bay NSW.
You know the type of life that includes wearing caftans and living in tents???
Anyway that was the way Chris (Bass Nutz) was thrown in the band.
At this point I'd like to point out that, because there are two Chris' in the band, Chris Bass Nutz will be known as just BASS NUTZ!
